New Zealand Jewellers join CIBJOAugust 6, 2008
CIBJO (the International Confederation of Jewellery, Silverware, Diamonds and Stones) has been advocating the interests of the jewellery trade since 1926, when it was solely a European association. It was restructured as a global body in 1961 and renamed The World Jewellery Confederation in 2000, but retains its former name.
"CIBJO functions as a centre of knowledge and advocate for the well being of the jewellery industry," said Bob Dawson, President of the JWNZ. "It relies upon members' initiatives to support and implement it's decisions and to protect the public's trust in the jewellery industry.
"Membership of this influential organisation will entitle the JWNZ to participate in all CIBJO congresses and meetings, offering our input and knowledge on matters relevant to the New Zealand jewellery and watch industry."
CIBJO holds an official consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, serving as a technical advisor and an adviser to governments and the UN Secretariat.
It is headquartered in Bern, Switzerland and its current president is Dr Gaetano Cavalieri, of Italy.
