GIA Indentifies Synthetic Diamonds in Hong Kong Lab

Ten diamonds submitted to the GIA’s Hong Kong lab have been identified as CVD-grown synthetics. This news comes shortly after the International Gem Institute’s May alert that 600 synthetic, colourless diamonds were submitted to the IGI’s lab without disclosure. GIA announced in its Gems and Gemology monthly eBrief that the stones appeared comparable to their natural counterparts. The round brilliants measured .30-.35ct with F-H colour grades and VVS1-VVS1 clarity.

GIA has also stated that the gemological and spectroscopic features of the stones were similar to those observed in Gemesis CVD synthetic diamonds, which were also treated with HPHT.
