Real or fake? A gold braceletMay 1, 2014
A client recently came in to the JVC offices for a valuation consult. She provided us with this gold bracelet, which she believed was solid 18ct gold.
As you can see, there is an 18ct gold stamp, which would normally confirm the client’s assumptions.
However, using several gold testing methods, JVC found that the bracelet was not solid gold. Not only that, but the bracelet wasn’t even gold plated (gold plating is when a layer of gold surrounds a cheaper metal) which meant that the stamp was entirely misleading.
The bracelet was worth a lot less than the client expected. Fortunately JVC was able to advise the client of this before she underwent the valuation process and found herself even further out of pocket.
